Beaches/Swimming 

Black Point Beach

Just a quick drive outside of downtown Ticonderoga lies a lovely public beach which provides an unbelievable view of Roger’s Slide across the lake. There is no charge for parking and use, and the area is great for swimming, picnicking, playing, and beach volleyball. 11 Tiroga Beach Lane, Ticonderoga, NY, 518-585-7139

    Roger’s Rock Swimming Beach

    The swimming beach at Roger’s Rock Campground is beautiful and secluded, the perfect place to jump in after a hike or bike ride (link to those pages). This beach is available for day use, but a lifeguard must be present while swimming. Contact the campground for hours. 518-585-6746 

      Hague Town Beach Park

      This area has lovely green space, parking and public bathrooms, and a big sand beach, perfect for swimming and wading. The location is just a two-minute walk into Downtown Hague to stock up on picnic essentials at The Hague Market.

        Tubing/Water Skiing

        Northern Lake George is a great place for water sports like tubing, water skiing, wakeboarding, and wake surfing. The shape of the lake creates bays in different directions, ensuring that there is always calm water somewhere.

            Snorkeling/Scuba Diving

            Lake George is a great spot for snorkeling enthusiasts, whether looking at local wildlife or exploring several historic underwater shipwrecks! Be sure to read the guidelines for driving at shipwrecks and all information about safety and scuba diving certifications in New York State. 

              The Sunken Fleet of 1758

              Located at the southern end of Lake George, this fleet of over 260 warships was intentionally sunk by the British army during the French and Indian War.

                The Land Tortoise Radeau

                Also sunk during the French and Indian War, this floating gun battery was sunk on Lake George near the southern end.

                  The Forward Underwater Classroom

                  This motor launch sunk in 1908 and was possibly one of the earliest gas-powered boats on Lake George and is also located at the southern end of the lake

                    The Cadet

                    Found off the shoreline of Bolton Landing, the Cadet was a steam launch discovered in 1997 in very good condition, though it is not known exactly when it was sunk.

                      The Wreck of the John Jay

                      Built in the mid-nineteenth century, this steamship sunk in 1856 after catching fire near Hague.

                        Sailing

                        The northern end of Lake George is the perfect place to go sailing. With fewer motorized boats, it’s a great place for beginners and enthusiasts.

                        Northern Lake George Yacht Club

                        NLGYC welcomes guests for racing every Saturday and Sunday morning during the summer and has one of the best junior programs in the Northeast. Children of non-members are welcome from ages 3-16. 40 Friends Point Dr S, Hague, NY 12836. 518-543-6533 

                          Three Perfect Days: Water Activities

                          The northern end of Lake George is the perfect place to go sailing. With fewer motorized boats, it’s a great place for beginners and enthusiasts.

                          Day 1: Boating + Water Sports

                          • Launch a boat at the Roger’s Rock Campground and take in the beauty of Lake George. 
                          • Drive by the famous Roger’s Slide and anchor in Cook’s Bay to swim in the crystal clear waters. 
                          • Bring some sandwiches from Libby’s Bakery Cafe and snacks from the Ticonderoga Natural Foods Coop for a picnic lunch. 
                          • Enjoy water skiing, wakeboarding, tubing, and more! 

                          Day 2: Gone Fishing

                          • Launch a boat at Mossy Point or rent from Snug Harbor Marina or Dockside Landing Marina and spend the whole day fishing on the lake, is there a better way to spend a summer day? 
                          • Get lunch at Burleigh’s or Bodette’s beforehand and enjoy it out on the water! 

                          Day 3: Canoe or Kayak Island Adventure

                          • Launch a kayak or canoe at the Hague Town Public Beach and enjoy a paddle between the Waltonian Islands. 
                          • Pick up lunch in Hague beforehand at The Hague Market and enjoy an island picnic on Asas Picnic Island.
                          • Temple Knoll even has a jumping rock!
